FERRET
Pia Wade’s life is a book with torn-out pages, she sees things no one else can, and she has weird dreams. It all started four years ago when she mysteriously vanished in the night. One problem though, she has no memory of the incident whatsoever, yet claims she was kidnapped. But as Pia embarks on a trip back to where her nightmare began, she wishes all her troubles would—Poof!—disappear. If only her parents would grant a little more breathing room because after all, whatever happened that night, she certainly did not kidnap herself. What Pia doesn’t know is that a new door of craziness will open up and lure her to investigate a strange world--our world--only she seems to live in. However, everything changes once Cameron Jacks enters her life. Convinced that she's not out of her mind, Pia must somehow prove it to herself, if not the world. And, the clock is ticking! |

Ferret by C.C. Wyatt is Volume 1 of The Ferret Books. Four years ago, Pia lost 16 hours of her life when she disappeared and then reappeared, not knowing where she had been although she knew that she had been kidnapped. Now, Pia is going back to where it all happened, but she is not looking forward to it and her misgivings seem to be right. Things are about to get more crazy than Pia ever imagined as she sets out on a mission to explore a world that only she lives in. Then Cameron Jacks comes into her life and everything changes in an instant. Can Pia find out what happened to her all those years ago? And just who is Cameron Jacks? The clock is ticking; time is running out.
Ferret (The Ferret Books Volume 1) by C.C. Wyatt was an intriguing read, packed full of mystery and suspense. The plot is interesting, somewhat unique and unpredictable, which I like in a book. It shows incredible imagination and creativity on the part of Ms. Wyatt. She writes the characters very well, giving plenty of detail to allow readers to get to know them over the course of the story and, I suspect, setting the scene very well for Volume 2. This is one of those books that got me from page one but then slowed down a little before picking up the pace and running hard with it, keeping me on the edge of my seat. It’s a page turner and one that will enthrall any teenager or adult alike, especially those who like thrilling endings that leave you hanging, waiting for Volume 2. Great debut novel, I'm looking forward to the next installment---Anne-Marie Reynolds Pia Wade wants to enjoy her parents’ trust, but she just has to get to the bottom of the mysterious visions, nightmares and experiences that threaten her sanity in Ferret by C.C. Wyatt. Anxious to be a ‘normal’ teen, Pia tries to hang out with her friend Stephanie during Spring Break, but now that she is back in Florida for the first time since her unexplained disappearance four years earlier, strange things begin to happen again. Cameron, a cute guy who Stephanie and some of the other kids think is strange, is attracted to Pia and Pia feels some type of connection to him as well. As the two get to know each other better, it is obvious that something unique ties them together. The mystery lies in the area known as the Bermuda Triangle, a spot where Cameron’s parents disappeared and where Pia is the only person able to see a beautiful island. Strange occurrences in Bermuda help to convince Pia that there is an explanation for her visions and with Cameron's help, they try to find some answers. Will they succeed or will the Triangle claim some new victims? Ferret by C.C. Wyatt follows Pia’s quest for understanding that incorporates typical teenage issues along with the burden of her strange experiences. The writing is smooth with characters that are believable and a blend of realistic and fantastic action that keeps the story moving along, making you wonder what will happen next. I loved the story! The characters are well developed, the action flows well and the fantasy elements are intriguing – and the lead in to a next volume is perfect. This is a great story well worth reading, especially with the promise of more to come---Melinda Hills |

What a fantastic end to the first installment of The Ferret Books, leaving you to rely on your imagination to fill in the blanks on some things, because you really don’t know what happened. It kind of reminds you of the movie The Happening. Except with Ferret, you can expect the mystery solved in the upcoming book—which I can’t wait to get my hands on!
Awesome characters, great writing, suspenseful mystery and delicate romance, Ferret is entertaining and has something that will appeal to all readers. I started reading this book expecting to like it. The cover, eye-catching, and the beginning pages, intellectually alluring, and it didn’t disappoint; it was an absolute page-turner. I would recommend the book especially to literary fiction readers (preteens to adults) who would appreciate elements of the supernatural/paranormal that sheds light of the saying "life is stranger than fiction---Melissa C. Ferret by C.C. Wyatt is a mystery written in a realistic setting. Her laid-back style perfectly blends strange occurrences with a moderately normal life. Pia returns to Florida with her parents, returning to the beach house where four years prior she had disappeared. For sixteen hours, no one knew where Pia was. She was found wandering the beach with no memory of what had happened to her. The out-of-body visions and nightmares of an island that have haunted her since become worse upon her arrival at the beach house, but with a bigger mystery attached. She starts seeing a stranger named Cameron in her visions. Pia works to put the pieces of her visions together to prove to herself that she isn’t crazy or hallucinating. Pia has to take a leap of faith to trust herself and Cameron to discover if the island she keeps seeing is real. C.C. Wyatt weaves the strange and horrifying visions masterfully into a normal moment of her protagonist’s life. The mystery kept me turning the pages to the very end. I had to know why Pia was having visions, where she went that night four years ago, and how it connects to the disappearance of Cameron’s parents. Pia is an easy character to relate to and I found myself rooting for her to solve the mystery. It’s intriguing, fast-paced, and mysterious. It’s a great first novel for a series! Wyatt gives just enough answers to feel satisfied about Pia’s sanity, but leaves other questions open. On the surface it’s a mystery blending the supernatural visions with a hint of fantasy, but at the heart it’s a story of belief. It begs the question of ‘which is stronger, the belief we have in ourselves, the belief others have in us, or the belief we have in them?’ I can’t wait for the next book!---Liz Konkel |
